Terje Gewelt: Acoustic Bass and Fender Jazz Bass
Kenneth Ekornes: Drums and Percussion
"Apples and Oranges" is Iranian-born, New York guitarist Ahmad
Mansour`s seventh CD release. After studies at Berklee College of
Music in Boston, where he first met bassist and producer Terje Gewelt,
he settled into the New York jazz scene in 1987 performing and recording
with many of the citiy's best young and upcoming musicians. On his new
Resonant Music release, Mansour is teamed up with the English pianist,
Roy Powell and two Norwegians, bassist, Terje Gewelt and drummer, Kenneth
Ekornes. As the title suggests, Apples and Oranges draws from a wide variety
of influences, blending middle eastern, jazz, country and rock in a cohesive
and personal style. This varied musical approach has resulted in a very
listenable and melodic recording, without compromising the artistic integrity
of the music. The compositions, which are all written by Mansour, show
his artisic depth as a contemporary composer with a great command of melody
and harmony. This music is imaginative and inspired! This is Ahmad Mansour's
first recording with his new European band. Anyone who enjoys melodic
instrumental guitar based jazz, is sure to appreciate "Apples and
Oranges"
