The Rob Waring Trio was formed in 1987 and plays music written by Waring and other Norwegian composers, with a focus on the element of improvisation. Their first CD «Secret Red Thread» was released in 1992 and received a Norwegian «Grammy» nomination. The new CD – «Synchronize Your Watches» (completed in June, 2001) features new compositions by Waring, as well as one by Håkon Hartberg and three by Jon Balke, one of them – «Rob Roy» – written specially for the trio. Singer Solveig Slettahjell is guest soloist on four tracks.

Rob Waring (1956) is originally from New York, where he studied percussion at the Juilliard School and was active on both the jazz and contemporary music scenes. In 1981 he settled in Oslo where he has been working as a vibraphonist, percussionist, composer, and teacher. He has recorded with a great variety of Norwegian groups representing a wide range of styles and approaches to music, including jazz, contemporary, folk, and experimental techno. Since 1986, Rob has been a member of the 10-piece band Søyr, which is also releasing a new CD in 2001. He is an Associate Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.

Carl Morten Iversen (1948) has been active on the Norwegian jazz scene for close to thirty years, working and recording with Norwegian as well as visiting musicians and covering styles from mainstream to free jazz. Among the many bands he has played in are Extended No(i)se, Oslo 13, Armen Donelian Trio, and Magni Wentzel Sextett. He has just recently released a CD with standard material in a duo setting with guitar player Jon Eberson.

Frank Jakobsen (1953) is one of Norway’s most versatile and sought after drummers. In the 1980s, he toured Norway and Europe and made numerous recordings with the band Cutting Edge. He now performs regularly with Knut Riisnæs, Olav Dale, and Bergen Big Band, among others.
