Terje Gewelt – Acoustic and Fender Jazz Bass
Christian Jacob – Piano
Norwegian bassist Terje Gewelt has played on more than 50 jazz recordings with artists ranging from Billy Cobham, Michael Shrieve, Misha Alperin and Tommy Smith to the great Norwegian saxophonist Knut Riisnæs.
On his latest solo effort, «Interplay», Terje once again teams up with the great French / American pianist, long time friend Christian Jacob, for a recording of intimate duo bass – piano jazz.
After releasing the critically acclaimed CD «Duality» last year, Terje invited Christian to Norway in October, 2002 to do a concert tour and to record a new CD.
The music you hear on «Interplay» is what was recorded at Resonant Music`s studio, «The Cookie Factory», in Oslo, with the exception of Solar, which was recorded live at the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway.
This duo recording will please jazz listerners who favor strong melodies, harmonies and improvisation performed with a high degree of interaction. The musical material consists of 6 originals and 4 standards specially chosen to fit this duo setting. Though Terje Gewelt primarily plays acoustic bass on this recording, he is also featured on the electric Fender jazz bass.
«Interplay» is intimate chamber jazz at its best. This is inspired, warm and optimistic music which can be enjoyed over and over again.
